Flight Instructor FI(A)

Rights of an FI(A):

The holder of an FI(A) rating is authorized to provide flight training for

  • The acquisition of the LAPL (A), PPL (A) and the class and type ratings as sole pilot for single-engine aircraft with the exception of technically complex high-performance aircraft.
  • The acquisition of the CPL (A), provided that the FI (A) demonstrates at least 500 hours as a pilot on airplanes, including at least 200 hours of night flight training, provided that he/she holds a night flight qualification and the ability to train at night, against an FI (A) recognized to conduct FI (A) training and the requirements for continuous flying experience at night in accordance with FCL.060 letter b paragraph 2.
  • Towing or aerobatic rating, provided the appropriate privileges are held and the FI has demonstrated to a qualified FI(I) the ability to provide training for this rating.
  • The acquisition of the instrument rating, provided that the instructor demonstrates at least 200 hours of flight time under instrument flight rules, of which up to 50 hours may be instrument ground time in a flight simulator or FNPT II; and- As a student pilot, has completed an approved flight training course and passed a competency assessment for the IRI certificate.
  • The acquisition of a class or type rating for multi-engine airplanes other than as sole pilot on high performance complex airplanes, provided that the FI complies with the requirements for the CRI training course in accordance with FCL.915.CRI(a) and the requirements of FCL.930.CRI and FCL.935.
  • The acquisition of the FI(A) instructor rating, provided that the instructor demonstrates at least 500 hours of flight instruction on aircraft and has completed an assessment of competence in accordance with FCL 935 in the appropriate aircraft category with a flight instructor examiner (FIE) to demonstrate the ability to provide training for the FI certificate.

Course of the training:

The FI(A) flight instructor training is carried out in accordance with FCL.930.FI and includes:

  • 125 hours of theory lessons
  • 30 hours of flight training from the right-hand pilot’s seat

Prerequisites:

  • Minimum age: 18 years
  • Valid license acc. Part-FCL of Regulation (EU) 1178/2011 and at least 200 flight hours on aircraft, including at least 150 hours as pilot in command (PIC).
  • At least 30 flight hours on single-engine aircraft with piston engines, of which at least 5 hours must have been flown within the last 6 months prior to the selection test.
  • At least 10 hours of instrument flight training, of which a maximum of 5 hours may be instrument ground time in our FNPT II. This is already fulfilled by the possession of an IR authorization or a certified Module A of the IR training.
  • At least 20 hours cross-country flight as pilot-in-command, including a flight of at least 300 NM, during which landings are to be made at at least 2 aerodromes other than the aerodrome of departure.
  • Proof of CPL(A) knowledge (possession of a CPL(A)/ ATPL(A) license or passed CPL(A)/ ATPL(A) theory test – otherwise LAPL only restricted

Class Rating Instructor – CRI(A)

Rights of a CRI(A):

  • The issue, revalidation and renewal of class or type ratings for non-complex non-high performance single-pilot aircraft when the applicant wishes to acquire the right to fly as a single pilot
  • A towing or aerobatic rating for the category of aircraft, provided the CRI holds the appropriate rating and has demonstrated to an FI qualified in accordance with FCL.905.FI(i) the ability to provide instruction for that rating.

The privileges of a CRI are limited to the aircraft class or type in which the instructor competency assessment was completed. The rights of the CRI are extended to further classes or types if the CRI has completed the following within the last 12 months:

  • 15 hours flying time as PIC on aircraft of the corresponding aircraft class or type
  • a training flight in the right-hand seat under the supervision of another CRI or FI qualified for that class or type in the other pilot seat.

Course of the training:
The CRI(A) training is carried out in accordance with. FCL.930.CRI and includes:

  • 25 hours of theory teaching and learning
  • 10 hours of theoretical training including verification of technical knowledge
  • 5 hours of flight instruction on multi-engine airplanes or 3 hours of flight instruction on single-engine airplanes given by a CRI(A ) qualified in accordance with FCL.905.FI(i).

Prerequisites:
The following prerequisites for training to become a Class Rating Instructor CRI(A) are set out below. FCL.915.CRI:

for single-engine aircraft:

  • 300 flight hours as a pilot on airplanes
  • 30 flight hours as PIC on aircraft of the corresponding aircraft class or type

or for multi-engine aircraft:

  • 500 flight hours as a pilot on airplanes
  • 30 flight hours as PIC on aircraft of the corresponding aircraft class or type
